0 Why Does Oboist Always Tune Orchestra?

How does Oboe work?

Oboe is double reeds instrument. Like any of the reed instrument, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon etc., they are closed at one end and open at the other.  But oboe, bassoon and saxophone produce different harmonic series from clarinet, because they produce conical air column, unlike clarinet, which produce cylinder air column.

Oboe is similar to clarinet, but why do oboist use vibrato?

0 Why Don’t Clarinet Players Use Vibrato

How does clarinet work?

Clarinet is of course woodwind instrument but it produces different timbre from flute or oboe. Why does that happen? Clarinet is a close pipe instrument, unlike flute, which is an open pipe instrument.

0 How Do Wind Instruments Produce Sound

General sound produced of wind instruments

Wind instruments are made up a sound production device incorporated into resonating air column, with provision for radiation of sound from the resonating column into the surrounding air.

The basic sound produced element will not usually produce oscillations with a saw-tooth waveform as in a bow stretched string. The tone produced by wind instruments will therefore have very different timbres than that of the bowed string family of musical instruments.
